WHAT YOU’LL DO
We are seeking a strategic, detail-oriented, and results-driven professional to serve as our Controller. This key leadership role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the organization's financial operations through the accurate maintenance of financial records, timely preparation of financial reports, and adherence to all financial and regulatory requirements. The Controller will oversee accounting processes, transaction management, and financial controls while driving continuous improvement and operational efficiency across the accounting function.
As a trusted business partner, the Controller will collaborate closely with leadership and department managers to support informed decision-making, provide financial insight, and contribute to organizational growth. This position plays an integral role in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning while maintaining strong working relationships across all levels of the organization.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Controller has overall responsibility for cash management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, liabilities, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and the maintenance of financial records for all applicable entities. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who combines technical PEO accounting expertise with strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely in the general ledger in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including preparation of financial statements and supporting documentation.
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Prepare annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and variance analyses; provide recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
- Manage the organization's banking relationships and maintain productive partnerships with vendors to support favorable terms and efficient payment processes.
- Oversee cash management activities, including daily cash monitoring, forecasting, liquidity planning, timely review of bank reconciliation, and fund availability.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and regulatory reporting, filing, and tax requirements, across a broad range of unique tax jurisdictions.
- Serve as the primary financial liaison with external auditors, tax professionals, regulatory agencies, banking institutions, and other third-party partners.
- Monitor accounts receivable and collection activities to ensure timely receipt of payments and healthy aging trends.
- Monitor accounts payable, accrued liabilities, and vendor payments to ensure timely and accurate disbursement of obligations.
- Oversee all accounting operations, including payroll, payables, receivables, cash disbursements, reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and transaction processing. Ensure all transactional activities are conducted timely and smoothly.
- Review, approve, and supervise general ledger journal entries, account reconciliations, and bank reconciliations.
- Manage corporate credit card programs, automated payment systems, and intercompany billing activities.
- Coordinate with operational and administrative departments to ensure financial transactions are properly documented, recorded, and reported.
- Analyze financial results, trends, and key performance indicators; prepare reports and recommendations for executive leadership and management teams.
- Assist executive management with budgeting, forecasting, performance measurement, and the development of key financial metrics.
- Establish departmental goals, performance expectations, and service standards that align with organizational objectives.
- Develop, document, and maintain accounting procedures, internal controls, and departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct periodic reviews, reconciliations, and audits of financial processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational effectiveness.
- Continuously evaluate accounting systems, workflows, and technologies to improve efficiency, scalability, and reporting capabilities.
- Oversee payroll tax filing, reporting, and payment processes to ensure timely and accurate compliance and avoid penalties.
- Coordinate corporate tax return preparation with external CPA firms and ensure all required filings are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Support annual audits, including financial statement audits, benefit plan audits, and other regulatory or compliance examinations.
- Collaborate cross-functional to enhance financial reporting, operational planning, and decision-making throughout the organization.
- Ensure and supervise the timely creation and payment of intercompany billing
- Support the 401k audit process by maintaining records to quickly provide the information needed to complete the audits timely
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field
- MBA and/or CPA preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of state and local income tax experience
- Minimum of 2 years of payroll tax experience
- Minimum 2 years PEO accounting experience
- Minimum of 2 years of managerial experience in an accounting environment
- Excellent current knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Excel (including VLookups, Pivot Tables, etc.)
- Experience with Sage Intacct a plus
- Highly ethical, prioritizes integrity, and promotes accountability
- Track record in collaborating with and supporting managers in operational departments

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Frequent speaking, listening, sitting, use of hands/fingers across keyboard or mouse, handling other objects, long periods working at a computer with adequate breaks
- Service center environment with moderate noise level due to coworkers talking, computers, printers, and floor activity
